FISH REPORT--

Our fish report to wrap up the end of January:
36 sand bass, 8 calico bass,
90 sculpin, 3 halibut, 2 sole, 45 sanddabs, and 1 blue shark (released).
The whopper is a 12 lb halibut caught
by Kasumi Shishido of Los Angeles.
Kasumi was fishing a live squid on a dropper loup on light spinning tackle
when she hooked her fish on the ocean bottom. The boat was drifting in rather
shallow water (35 ft) with a nice northerly offshore breeze, and Kasumi was
fishing the side of the boat furthest from the breeze with her line under the
boat... She snuck up on the flattie! Once hooked, she followed her flattie
toward the boat's bow to avoid other anglers' fishing lines. The fish, once laid
out, was an easy pick to land for first mate Garett with the gaff
...(well, it was made to look easy).
We had fun the first month of this year, running some exciting trips
whalewatching and also fishing for bass in the shallow water under Indian
Summer-like skies.
We are now tied up for boatwork on the Betty O for the month of February.
We look forward to seeing you out on
the water in March.

IN MEMORY OF THE GREAT "DOC" September 21, 1916 - July 14, 2007. He enjoyed his last fishing trip
aboard the Betty-O on July 13th. Doc's beloved wife of 62 years, Nancy,
passed away in 2004. He is survived by 12 of his 14 children.
